STUFF WE LIKE

Music

Musicians 2.jpg

The top link has to be Snarky Puppy. Watch their videos and you'll see why!

The Gotan Project is a great band.  If you don’t know them you should.  Did you know that Gotan is Buenos Aires slang for tango.

The massively talented and totally unique Rodrigo & Gabriela.  We saw them a couple of years back at Terminal 5 in New York. As well as playing great music they put on a fab visual show too.

Avishai Cohen is a bass player who has a great jazz trio. This link lets you select this and any of his albums and listen to them before buying. ‘Continuo’ is one of our faves.

DJs, producers, and continual collaborators with all sorts of cool people. Rob Garza and Eric Hilton a.k.a. Thievery Corporation are our favourite chilled lounge dudes. We saw them at Webster Hall late in 2013.

Keith Jarret in concert in 1984.  We saw him in New York at Carnegie Hall in 2011 and he walked off stage in a ‘princess-y’ fit after someone coughed.  Apparently he does that a lot.  Here you can hear him without any such silly disturbances.  He still has the No 1. selling piano solo album in the world!

Art & Design

The freshest street art from London and other cities is continually posted on Hookedblog. If you are ever in London take a walking tour with them, you’ll be amazed at what you see.

Sanford Wurmfeld.  Our good friend Sandy who is still working through his lifelong colour obsession.

Nicola met Alison Wight in Graphic Design class at New York’s SVA. A talented illustrator, her 'Sent from the Moon' comics are as quirky and original as she is.

Paul Beliveau is a French Canadian artist. We liked his stuff so much one of his pieces now hangs in our living room.

Culture & Comedy

Culture.jpg

Musician, writer, artist, film-maker and avid bicycle rider. You just can’t pigeon-hole the wonderfully eclectic talents of David Byrne. In 2013 he published a fab book called ‘How Music Works’. Well worth a read.

Mikey wants to hate him, as he not only plays the piano brilliantly and can sing sweetly but Tim Minchin is wickedly funny and sharply intelligent. Nicola also thinks he’s rather cute, in a kooky ginger way.

Arc Magazine. Launched by our Bequian friend Holly Bynoe and Nadia Huggins this beautiful Magazine and excellent website champions Caribbean Art & Culture.

Listed here not just because he’s the only person we know besides Nicola who was also born in Yemen, but simply that Eddie Izzard is a true original. His humour is timeless and his relentless drive is infectious.
